Creatine Monohydrate Info and Reviews
What is Creatine Monohydrate?
Creatine monohydrate is a naturally occuring amino acid that plays an important role in regenerating adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in skeletal muscle. ATP is essential for muscle contraction, so you can see why it would be important in lifting weights! Creatine may also help the muscles to retain more water, thus increasing their size.
Creatine is naturally found in meat, though only in very small amounts would come from your diet. For example, an 8 oz. steak would probably have around one gram of it! So supplementing with a good creatine monohydrate supplement is really the only way to get enough to make a difference.
There are a small number of people that have found that using creatine caused mild stomach discomfort or diarrhea. To make sure creatine is the cause of this discomfort you should discontinue use for at least a week before using it again, and even then use a smaller dose. Also, if you have a history of kidney or liver disorders it is not recommended to supplement with creatine monohydrate. There is no known toxicity to using creatine.
