Why take a Calcium Supplement?

Calcium is most commonly known for its ability to help strengthen your bones.  But there are several other ways that calcium is beneficial to our bodies, which makes taking a calcium supplement a very good idea.  For those of us that work out, calcium plays a very important role in helping muscles to relax and avoid cramping and injury.

Another reason to take a calcium supplement is that it has been proven to help metabolize fat.  Of course, a great source of calcium is milk.  Hence the well-known phrase “Milk.  It does a body good.”  But because milk can be somewhat high in calories, it still isn’t a bad idea to use a calcium supplement to get the amount of calcium that you need.  But too much of a good thing can be bad for you, so it’s not a good idea not to ingest more than 2.5 grams of calcium in one day (whether from milk, or any other sources) as this can cause a mineral imbalance in your body.
