Rest and Sleep are Part of the Equation
So how much sleep do you need? Most sources will tell you 7-9 hours, or something like that. Funny how this is the same recommendation that we’ve all heard since we were kids, but how many of us actually follow it? Instead we try to operate on 4-6 hours of sleep and build muscle at the same time. You’re not stacking the odds in your favor if this is what you’re trying to do. A good number of the articles that you read will mention that rest is probably the most important thing that you have to include in your lifestyle if you really want to build your best body. If that’s the case, its time to take a look at your own sleep habits and start to take it more seriously!

You are absolutely correct, if you suffer from insomnia, then your chances of being obese go up like crazy. Get a good nites sleep.
I haven’t ran across any books that relate rest and sleep to the equation of building muscle. All the literary works about sleeping seemed to be geared more to dream interpretations, lucid dreams, REM patterns, and other senseless quackery. Maybe someone should get creative and write a book about sleep versus muscle gain.
Anyway, I can’t say much because I don’t sleep near enough. I probably only sleep as much as I want, about 1 or 2 days a week. However, when I workout, I can tell that my body seems to need more sleep, so yeah, there’s some truth to that equation you spoke about.
