How Safe is Creatine?

I think we’ve all heard this question from time to time from various sources. In fact, I remember doing a lot of online research on it before I started taking it consistently for the first time.

Real Solutions Magazine put out an article recently addressing this same question. You can read it here:

Is Creatine Safe?

So what do you think? I know that a lot of people like to mention that the overall long term affects of creatine have not adequately been studied, and this may very well be true. I guess only time will tell. I know that for me personally, I don’t take any supplement (besides whey and a multivitamin) for super long periods of time. I think this is good advice for most enhancement related supplements.

Before, I use to take creatine. I used it for more than a year and I immediately saw and felt the effects, especially during the first months as my body really bulked up. But the only negative effect I experienced is that my body became dependent on creatine and I must continually take it to maintain my size and workout intensity. Bur now, I just take whey because it feels more natural.

  2. June 13th, 2008 | 6:37 am

I’ve taken creatine off and on for some time now and never seen any negative side effects.

  3. June 13th, 2008 | 9:48 pm

I agree with you that time will tell if creatine is safe. Personally, I have never taken creatine as I don’t want my body to become dependent on it. I believe that if you need a substance to obtain a desired effect, then you will never be able to stop using that substance. If you do, the desired effect will disappear.

  4. June 16th, 2008 | 5:07 pm

Creatine is an excellent supplement if you are looking for that pumped up look. Although some people claim about that water retention effects, I haven’t personally seen any of that.

In my experience, I have used it on and off in cycled of about a month on, a month off for the best effect. Staying on for too long seems to nullify the results after awhile.

I used Creatine for several years and never had a single problem with it. I was always impressed with the results as well…

  6. June 18th, 2008 | 11:12 pm

I’ve researched Creatine, and found no reports of serious side effects association with the supplement. Creatine is produced by the body and it exists naturally in different foods. That should be a first indication of its safety.

The greatest concern is that the body’s natural creatine production would shut down since its demand would not be needed after long periods of Creatine use. This has never happened in 45+ years of the supplements use. You are more likely to get a horrible disease or get fat from McDonalds than to discover, decades from now, that Creatine was bad for you.

I don’t know what it is about the supplement that has caused so much confusion regarding its safety, effectiveness, and usage. If people want the straight goods on the product, they need only to read some peer reviewed journals on pubmed.gov. Don’t rely on magazine articles or people only quoting from other publications!

People note that creatine gives them a pump. It adds size, power, speed and recovery to what they already have, but when they get off it, they lose in all these areas. ‘Proper’ use of creatine is not so that you pump up in a couple weeks from just taking the supplement alone. What you should be doing is using creatine then pushing yourself much harder at the gym. Those results — the creation of new muscle tissue — won’t be going anywhere when you decide to stop taking creatine.

  7. June 20th, 2008 | 1:45 am

I too used creatine for many years without any sideeffect.

  8. June 20th, 2008 | 5:17 pm

i don’t rely on these things…never used supplements

  9. June 22nd, 2008 | 2:29 pm

I use whey because it seems to be more natural. I wouldn’t want to use anything that would cause my body to be dependent on it.

  10. June 23rd, 2008 | 12:48 pm

Supplements are OK but there’s nothing that substitutes for a healthy diet and regular exercise.

  11. June 23rd, 2008 | 10:07 pm

I think Creatine is safe, it is a amino acid that our body needs.

  12. June 24th, 2008 | 6:43 am

Creatine is one of the safer body building enhancements out there. As long as you speak with your doctor before you start taking any creatine or other types of ‘natural’ supplements or enhancements.

  13. June 24th, 2008 | 10:22 am

As a female, I was told not to use creatine. Bulk was not was I was after. Tight and Tone was the goal. I could be wrong but this is what was recommended to me.

I had taken creatine for a while, but then I read some articles that it can be really bad for you. So I dropped it from my regular exercise program and went back to taking whey protein instead.

  18. July 3rd, 2008 | 6:04 am

Most people say creatine is safe. I bodybuild and I draw the line at protein supplements. Everybody has to make his or her own educated choices.

  19. July 5th, 2008 | 6:47 pm

Personally, I prefer trying to stay as natural as possible. I have never used creatine, nor do I plan to in the future, unless there is 100% certainty that it is safe.

  20. July 6th, 2008 | 11:07 am

Creatine has not been extensively researched. I’ve read articles in the newspaper before that creatine actually improves memory. The only known danger is overconsumption and lack of water consumption. You MUST dilute the creatine heavily, or it will destroy your kidneys.

  21. July 6th, 2008 | 5:35 pm

I don’t like using any of these compounds. I eat healthy and do my excerises without the use of such products.

  22. July 7th, 2008 | 4:22 pm

I sure hope it is safe, since it’s approved and released. But goes to show that you never know…

  23. July 9th, 2008 | 6:02 am

Absolutely it’s safe. It’s produced naturally in the body, by taking it you are only increasing your natural levels. I never felt any site effects, except it can make your muscle feel soft from all the extra water.

  36. July 15th, 2008 | 3:45 am

Creatine works. The only side effects are muscle gain.

I’ve heard that a million times and it’s true to an extent that most normal people will benefit from creatine, in fact it has the nick name “the one that works”, but one side effect I’ve noticed which can be easily negated is dehydration.

Creatine uses water to volumize cells, the water has to come from somewhere and if you don’t have enough it may “dry” you out.

As long as you drink an extra 6 glasses a day on creatine, you’ll have no problems.

  37. July 16th, 2008 | 12:27 am

    never tried to do so..

  38. July 16th, 2008 | 6:06 pm

I’ve taken creatine, and the only side effect I noticed was a little extra gassiness. Not pleasant, so I’ve stopped using it.

  39. July 17th, 2008 | 12:51 pm

Creatine is one of the most well studied sports supplements ever. The bodybuilding and sport supplement industry has a (deserved) shady reputation because very few of the products in this industry have been proven to be safe or effective. However, creatine does not fall into that category.

Time and time again, studies have shown creatine to be safe and effective. Still, you should take precautions and take it properly. Cycle on and off of creatine regularly, do not take it constantly. And be sure to drink plenty of fluids, you’ll need them anyway if you are working out and ingesting lots of protein.

Still, if you are the conservative type, steer away from creatine and other supplements. The body is a delicate balance of thousands of different compounds, chemicals, and nutrients, and how any one individual’s body reacts to a change in that balance is not 100 percent predictable. This is true of not only supplements, but even foods and medicines (even asprin or ibuprofin!) that have been around forever.

  44. July 19th, 2008 | 4:48 am

As an M.D. and fitness enthusiast, I’ve cycled creatine without any ill effects over a period of months. What I find more of a problem is the under-reported risks of liquid high-protein meal replacements. The toll they take on the kidneys can be pretty rough. One has to measure the benefits of supplements with the cost of stressing the internal organs that have to process these elements in your bloodstream over long periods of time. Natural food sources are still your safest bet.

  45. July 19th, 2008 | 4:22 pm

My bf took creatine for some time. He had a LOT of gas with it. It was either me or the creatine…. besides, IMO, training and supplementing in a natural way is by far the safest. Yup, he did see increased bulk so yeah it did work, but who knows what effect it has in the long run?

Even form all the comments here, the only side effect seems to be dehydration, but one should remember that if you ate two loaves of bread and didn’t drink more water, you’d dehydrate too - Same principle - Drink more.

  54. July 23rd, 2008 | 2:34 pm

I thought that body creates also creatine. I read recently an article about different suppliments, and in that study the information stated that creatine should be no danger. Of course, if you use creatine too much like anything else, then it might some day become a problem. I personally use it with my protein drink and have seen only good results.

  55. July 23rd, 2008 | 8:07 pm

I think it’s safe as long as you’ll just use it with moderation and never abuse it. I like some of the comments here, they are very informative about creatine, I learned something here thanks.

  56. July 25th, 2008 | 3:01 am

    i don’t no………..

  57. July 26th, 2008 | 12:38 am

As mentioned earlier, our bodies create creatine naturally so the question isn’t so much whether creatine itself is harmful but the dosage of creatine that is being used. When it comes to vitamins and supplements, more of a good thing isn’t always a good thing. It is possible to consume too much of a vitamin/supplement and this is where the concern lies with creatine for most people.

When taking creatine, it is usually recommended to cycle on and off with your use. Personally, I would avoid using creatine on a daily basis for extended periods of time but am not concerned with the use of creatine when cycled properly.

  58. July 28th, 2008 | 5:12 am

    not at all.

  59. July 29th, 2008 | 5:17 am

Well, i believe creatine is safe. because from i wat i have studied, creatine is secreted out of ur urine.

  60. July 30th, 2008 | 10:20 pm

Of course creatine is not safe. Ok, it is secreted out of urine, but is a artificial substance, so, not safe!

Well I don’t think that Creatine has any side or negative effects. I have used it in the past and I am currently using it and I must say it works for me.

  65. August 4th, 2008 | 6:40 am

Well, if you watch the side effects reported on http://www.sanego.de for this “agent”, then all of you would very much disagree that there are no negative effects….

  66. August 6th, 2008 | 2:03 pm

I’ve heard people compare Creatine to Marijuana in the sense that they are both ‘gateway’ drugs. You start using simple supplements and after a while, you move into the harder ones (be it cocaine or HGH/AS).

Although creatine has recently been accepted as a safe and useful ergogenic aid, several myths have been purported about creatine supplementation which include:

    1. All weight gained during supplementation is due to water retention.

    2. Creatine supplementation causes renal distress.

    3. Creatine supplementation causes cramping, dehydration, and/or altered electrolyte status.

    4. Long-term effects of creatine supplementation are completely unknown.

    5. Newer creatine formulations are more beneficial than creatine monohydrate and cause fewer side effects.

    6. It’s unethical and/or illegal to use creatine supplements. While these myths have been refuted through scientific investigation, the general public is still primarily exposed to the mass media which may or may not have accurate information.

  82. August 19th, 2008 | 2:16 pm

creatine can be used effectively if taken in moderation and with the right supplements. you will see results and its not addicting.

  83. August 20th, 2008 | 7:59 am

Here is a creatine tip for all - Never let your creatine sit in liquid for more than a few minutes MAXIMUM. Drink it as soon as you stir it and don’t let it settle to the bottom of the glass or around the sides. Think VOLUME.

  84. August 22nd, 2008 | 10:35 am

I have mixed feelings about creatine. I, myself have never used it and never will. I feel that it is harmful to your body. However, I knew a lot of people who used it in high school to get big fast.

The only problem that they mentioned is the fact that as soon as they stopped taking it, they lost all that muscle that they put on with the creatine.

I really just don’t think that it is worth it.

  85. August 24th, 2008 | 9:47 am

Creatine is one of the best yet most effective supplement that delivers real results. Has been around and tested for years, yet to this day it has not been banned. (surprising)

VERY VERY Low dosages are found in some foods, so I see this as a natural supplement that if taken in larger quantities yields pleasing results to the user.

  90. August 28th, 2008 | 9:44 am

I used to take Creatine about 2 years ago and never once had any problems with it. It isn’t bad for you like some people think it is, I think some may even think that it is a form of steroids.

Creatine comes in many different forms instead of just powder and it definitely does help. It is a great way to aid your muscles so that they heal quicker while increasing size. I noticed a lot more overall strength while I was taking it compared to the years that I had been lifting weights before when I wasn’t taking it.

My muscles grew bigger quicker and I was able to recover from a harder work out in far less time.

  91. August 31st, 2008 | 11:30 am

I’ve never tried Creatine. I personally wouldn’t use it but I have some close friends that do.

  92. August 31st, 2008 | 11:32 am

Any time you mess with Supplements, you can never truly know if they’re safe. Usually it’s better to just bring in the stuff naturally. It’s also cheaper and more effective!

  93. September 1st, 2008 | 7:49 am

As long as it is taken sensibly then you should be ok. Unfortunately people have a tendency to overdo things like this, and look at it as some kinda short cut to building muscles

i’ve been thinking about starting with creatine, but i’ve seen such conflicting information about how to use it; before the work out, after and in some instances, the bottles have recommended both. i’ve also noticed inconsistency in the dosages that are recommended. does anyone here have a suggestion about a brand and the best way to take it?

I’ve never really messed with creatine, but more or less stick with whey protein instead. Creatine seemed a bit unnatural to me, kinda like anabolics. Plus, I’d rather have a cut look, not the “I could bench press a car” look.

People have been using creatine for sooo long already, I doubt these new skeptical articles are that grounded in real-life use. It’s surely the best supplement for gaining that extra “pump” in the legal realm… don’t take that away from us :(

I think if supplements such as Creatine help us then why not use them? There doesn’t seem to be any conclusive evidence to say that it’s bad.

  105. September 9th, 2008 | 12:32 am

i used Creatine i can say that it has no negative effect on me and i have been using it for a long time. so, no regret!

I’ve been using creatine for a year now, it’s good.

I haven’t notice any bad effects.

  108. September 10th, 2008 | 2:31 pm

I haven’t actually tried creatine, but I know many athletes who have. The opinions are always mixed, some love it, and highly recommend it - while others are indifferent to it’s affects, some are even against it’s use entirely.

    Thanks for sharing your opinions,

    -B

I have also experienced the bulking up effect of creatine so we know it does that much. However after I stopped using it, I felt somewhat bloated so I think the effect has to do with massive water retention like what people used to say about it. It definitely works though.

I love creatine, it works great and is safe and healthy!

  111. September 15th, 2008 | 2:00 am

My husband uses it quite regularly and hasn’t had any adverse effects (yet). I’m not really keen on him using it though - don’t know if it’s worth it when nobody REALLY knows if there’s side effects.

  112. September 15th, 2008 | 9:40 am

Creatine is safe if used properly. You need to drink A LOT at least a gallon a day. All bodybuilders know this. If you don’t drink a lot, you’ll end up with too much salt buildup. My brother and his friend improperly used creatine and didn’t drink huge amounts of water. Both ended up getting kidney stones a month apart from each other.

  113. September 15th, 2008 | 10:55 am

This topic on Creatine is great as there is so many conflicting views on: its legality for use in sport, is it safe?, how do you use it?, and whats best? powder or serum?

Creatine supplements have been around for sometime now, so surely there must be some definitive answer out there

  114. September 16th, 2008 | 12:58 am

I was wondering if I should use Creatine or not, thanks for giving me some things to think about.

  115. September 17th, 2008 | 7:43 am

I have a close friend who swears by using Creatine. He’s had excellent results with the product and no complications. Seems to be working well for him!

  116. September 17th, 2008 | 12:42 pm

I don’t think that Creatine is worth it. I have never used it and never will. I think that it is injurious to your body. But, I knew lots of people who used it to get big fast. The only problem that they mentioned is the fact that when they stopped taking it, they lost all that muscle that they put on with the creatine.

  117. September 18th, 2008 | 4:33 am

It should be safe since it is around for so many years. If it is not safe it would be off the shelf long ago.

  118. September 19th, 2008 | 11:31 pm

i used Creatine and i can say it worked without any negative effect.i have been using it for 7 months now

  119. September 20th, 2008 | 11:36 am

i think creatine is safe …But never used …

    Good article about that

  120. September 22nd, 2008 | 5:53 am

Creatine, by way of conversion to and from phosphocreatine, functions in all vertebrates and some invertebrates, in conjunction with the enzyme creatine kinase. A similar system based on arginine/phosphoarginine operates in many invertebrates via the action of Arginine Kinase.

  121. September 22nd, 2008 | 8:41 am

Never heard all this information abut Creatine. Thanks Dan for this post, my friend will be so exciting to check this. I really appreciate your work over here :)

  122. September 24th, 2008 | 6:14 am

i never used creatine and i never will, I’m totally against anything that is not natural :p

  123. September 24th, 2008 | 8:15 pm

    Hi
I am with you on that.I,myself shy away from any type of supplements and plan to always stick by that.I guess I feel God has provided us enough natural things to not need those extras. But I think its a personal choice and I dont knock anyone:)Have a good one-

  124. September 26th, 2008 | 7:00 am

I never took any supplements nor do I encourage them until proven to be healthy.

  125. September 26th, 2008 | 12:33 pm

Never taken Creatine personally, but I have several friends who have and didn’t suffer any longterm effects (that I’ve heard of). They’ve all stopped using it however, so who knows what they’re not telling me.

  126. September 26th, 2008 | 5:59 pm

I don’t bother with creatine because no one seems to know whether it brings about a muscle gain or water gain. I guess people can react differently to creatine. I just don’t want to be one of the ones who get bloated with water.

  127. September 27th, 2008 | 9:12 am

Thanks so much this is really a great insight, by the way your website is really nice.

  128. September 28th, 2008 | 10:32 am

I don’t think it causes serious damage. But in my opinion, creatine can be a kind of “gateway drug” for steroids and other more dangerous substances. I don’t take any supplements at all.

  129. September 30th, 2008 | 10:14 am

My friend will be so happy to read that, I’ve really enjoyed your site and have subscribed to it.

  130. September 30th, 2008 | 12:37 pm

I know quite a few people who use creatine but I don’t really know if they have any more results than anyone else. Other people I know don’t use it and to be honest, look much the same. I guess it boils down to personal choice. Often you can feel stronger just by the “thought” of it working and it leads to you working out for longer. Hard to say on an individual basis whether creatine works for everyone.

  134. October 3rd, 2008 | 2:00 pm

the way i see creatine is a good way to stay cut, if you continue to use it there will be side affects its a good supplement to take every couple times for a few days or weeks dont extend it to months or years tahts when youll get into trouble.

Helpful peice of information. Of course there are side effects associated but it won’t stop people taking it.

  138. October 9th, 2008 | 3:41 am

    It is not safe!
Believe me, i know some people who have used it in the past.

  139. October 10th, 2008 | 3:51 am

I don’t think it is wise to take all this things even though long term effects have not been studied extensively.

  140. October 11th, 2008 | 5:29 am

right i’m not sure its safe

  141. October 14th, 2008 | 11:10 pm

I can’t belive what I’m reading here. Your body does not get addicted to , or dependent on creatine. All the substance does is to superhydrate the muscle. You may get psychologically dependent if you have your head on the wrong way.

the trick is to cycle creatine and keep the majority of any gains you made while using it. The complete explanation is too involved for this post but your body is not dependent on creatine. lol

  142. October 15th, 2008 | 11:51 am

Actually, Creatine is one of the most researched supplements (second only to whey protein). It is a naturally found substance in meats such as beef, and it is part of the most basic energy cycle in physiology called the Krebs cycle. This is where ATP adenosine tri-phosphate is broken down for its phosphate bonds and then that break down provides the quick momentary energy supply untill the more longterm supply of glycogen can arrive on the scene. And Creatine is the element that is used to rebuild this ATP back up.

So it is a natural componenet of using muscles, and the thought is the more you have the more energy you have for explosive movements - sprinting, weight lifting etc. Plus it makes the muscles swell out nicely because it stores 3 grams of water for each gram of creatine.

I say all of this to reinforce the opinions that this is a safe supplement to use.

    To Your Health, - Chris

  143. October 17th, 2008 | 5:57 am

Interesting post, not too sure if this will put me off products containing creatine though.

  147. October 22nd, 2008 | 8:45 pm

I don’t know about creatine for muscles, but I’m looking for info on glucosamine. They are using it in the equine industry for arthritis rehab and I was curious about peoples oppinion for humans.

    Thanks,

    Sarah the Farrier of WA

  148. October 23rd, 2008 | 6:05 am

Personally, I prefer trying to stay as natural as possible. I have never used creatine, nor do I plan to in the future, unless there is 100% certainty that it is safe.

  150. October 23rd, 2008 | 2:51 pm

I’ve not heard of any negative side effects from Creatine. I would imagine its fine in moderation.

  151. October 24th, 2008 | 10:22 pm

I think that Creatine is perfectly safe…then again so is anything as long as it is in moderation.

  152. October 25th, 2008 | 2:58 am

  155. October 29th, 2008 | 10:16 am

Hey, thanks for the information. I’m still a little unsure of this and your post has allowed me to understand more on it! Thanks again!

  156. October 30th, 2008 | 5:49 am

Thank you very interesting the topics of your blog, is my first visit.

  157. October 30th, 2008 | 6:32 am

This drug creatine never causes any negative side effects that is what I have been told.

  158. October 30th, 2008 | 8:35 am

A new drug, I assume and is becoming popular but where is available.

  159. October 30th, 2008 | 9:57 pm

Creatine i have come to know about this before in some blogs but have never tried appears to be good one

  160. October 31st, 2008 | 7:40 am

I use creatine for two years and never had a single problem

  161. October 31st, 2008 | 11:00 am

Absolutely it’s safe. It’s produced naturally in the body, by taking it you are only increasing your natural levels. I never felt any site effects, except it can make your muscle feel soft from all the extra water.

  162. October 31st, 2008 | 10:51 pm

Personally, I don’t think its safe

  163. November 2nd, 2008 | 9:38 am

I saw some health drink that contains creatine so I think it is generally regarded as safe but of course, moderation is the key and if you intend to use it in long term, it would be best to consult a medical doctor.

  164. November 3rd, 2008 | 11:16 am

I am the same, I keep away from supplements. Creatin sounds tempting at times but these things need at least 50 years research before I would even go near them…

  165. November 3rd, 2008 | 1:58 pm

Supplements are good, but I guess there’s also something that we should know about. Perhaps they won’t sell it if its harmful to consumers..

  166. November 4th, 2008 | 5:14 am

I only heard that creatine is useful to boost your muscle mass and works along with L-Lyseine. I don’t know if crative has a bad effect…

  167. November 4th, 2008 | 12:11 pm

I have a few friends using it and they say its ok. I am still scepital as I am already a large guy and dont want to add any fat.

  168. November 6th, 2008 | 12:03 pm

Most people say creatine is safe. I bodybuild and I draw the line at protein supplements. Everybody has to make his or her own educated choices.

  169. November 7th, 2008 | 12:03 pm

I use it all the time, im pretty cut and havent seen any side effects, use creatine and hydroxycut too and youll see results.

  170. November 9th, 2008 | 9:16 am

I haven’t tried creatine, but I know many who have used it and I heard that someones like it someones not.

  171. November 9th, 2008 | 7:13 pm

I’m a big fan of everything in moderation. I don’t have a problem with people using Creatine for short periods of time when in a regular fitness routine supervised by a trainer.

  172. November 10th, 2008 | 2:39 pm

Creatine is naturally produced by the human body so I say it’s safe, however, I think it should be taken in moderation just like everything else in life.

  173. November 10th, 2008 | 6:16 pm

It is definitely safe. All meta studies show this in fact.

  174. November 12th, 2008 | 3:49 am

If you continue to use it there will be side affects its a good supplement to take every couple times for a few days or weeks dont extend it to months or years tahts when youll get into trouble.

  175. November 15th, 2008 | 3:45 am

If you are a professional athlete then maybe you have a reason to use it. As amateur ill stay away from it.

  176. November 17th, 2008 | 6:57 am

    thanks..

  177. November 18th, 2008 | 4:39 am

i have never try it,but i think it will be useful for

  178. November 20th, 2008 | 2:00 pm

Creatine is essential in living a better lifestyle. Energy is great and you’ll get that with creatine.

  182. November 26th, 2008 | 6:18 am

Only if extensive research has been done on it would I even buy the benefits of the product.

  183. November 26th, 2008 | 9:32 am

Creatine is known for its various beneficial functions but excess of creatine do have side effects as well, for instance it may cause dehydration and rise in internel pressure in muscles, and proves to be fatal in found in feeding mother’s milk.

  184. November 26th, 2008 | 8:01 pm

I don’t know much about creatine but all I can say is if it’s good for the health then, why not? But as always, anything in excess is bad for the health, right, no matter how beneficial it can be, right?

  187. December 3rd, 2008 | 8:36 pm

I took creatine when I was 18 and got better results than when I used anabolic steroids. I would say if used properly it’s fairly safe. You should drink a gallon of water a day and take milk thistle and you will be fine. I usually took around 5 grams of creatine a day. It gave me unbelievable pumps and stamina in the gym. It is not addictive however the results you get will make you feel like you want to have it all the time!

Nice article. I’m compiling data about creatine and its side effects on us. Particularly if it can cause cancer. So far there are no direct claims or medical research that indicates it can cause cancer. I’ve taken Creatine from MuscleTech and personally think it’s a great product in itself. It can keep you fit during your workouts and exercises when you feel fatigue.

  200. December 24th, 2008 | 1:39 am

I guess it boils down to personal choice. Often you can feel stronger just by the “thought” of it working and it leads to you working out for longer.

  201. December 25th, 2008 | 3:35 am

People note that creatine gives them a pump. It adds size, power, speed and recovery to what they already have, but when they get off it, they lose in all these areas.

It’s all up to you; I’d go with creatine.

I would say creatine is a great supplement but I wouldn’t recommend it for cardio intensive type athletes. When I was playing soccer it began to dry me out and make me dry heave unless I drank tons of water…after season I was fine though.

  205. December 31st, 2008 | 9:36 am

I think it varies person to person. I would highly recommend speaking with a physician before starting on supplements & a new exercise plan.

  210. January 12th, 2009 | 6:52 am

i never uses any creatine. I just go to the gym and work out. but i do eat a lot of food. Not junk food that is.

  211. January 15th, 2009 | 6:20 pm

I have read about creatine for sometime now and everytime I think about using it in my workouts, I read a story about it possibly hurting your kidneys, especially after a prolong time. I am not sure if that is accurate or not, but it concerns me. but the upside sounds great.

    January 17th, 2009 | 12:57 pm

I would worry about the long term effects (years down the line). What good is it to get better results if it’s doing damage to your body? Eating right and training very hard will produce results, so why take the risk?

  213. January 17th, 2009 | 8:49 pm

i used tons of creatine a few years back. It did seem to speed up recovery. It could have been a placebo effect, but i got stronger and built muscle, cut body fat thats all that mattered at the time

  214. January 19th, 2009 | 11:33 am

As long as your getting enough water its fine to take creatine i think

  215. January 20th, 2009 | 8:27 pm

You have to take at least 2 gallons of water with the creatine or it has no effect, Cheers

  216. January 22nd, 2009 | 9:52 pm

I’ve taken creatine off and on for some time now and never seen any negative side effects.

  217. January 25th, 2009 | 3:53 am

I have read somewhere that, creatine supplementation improved the health and lifespan of mice. Whether these beneficial effects would also apply to humans is still uncertain. It also led to a rise in allergic lung reactions in an animal test on mice with pre-existent allergic disease.

  220. January 29th, 2009 | 3:57 am

    Creatine??? You really think so??

  221. January 30th, 2009 | 9:11 am

I always adhere to the policy of ‘moderation in all things’. I would say using creatine in moderation and in combination with a healthy diet could be a very good thing and help you get bigger. I’ve seen it with myself and friends.

  222. January 30th, 2009 | 6:16 pm

I agree that any food or supplements should be taken in moderation. Of course, if you are not working out hard enough, you probably have no use for such products in the first place.

  223. February 2nd, 2009 | 8:32 pm

everything has side effect, even instant or that will show in long term.I think using supplement with correct function and dose have good result for our way.

  224. February 5th, 2009 | 3:42 am

supplements are bound to have different effects on different people. One man’s food is often another mans poison. Different body metabolisms have different reactions.

  225. February 5th, 2009 | 6:10 pm

I would definitely avoid creatine. I’ve heard some pretty rough stories from people who used to take a lot of it.

  226. February 5th, 2009 | 6:21 pm

I’m not sure what the long term effects of Creatine are, I’ve heard it’s very bad for you but it is evident there is no facts or evidence to support that notion.

Until they come out with a study, they still have to prove something. My friend took it for several years and he’s fine.

I think it’s more so that it has a lot of chemicals in it just like certain protein supplements. I’d rather have completely natural protein and make it myself, just like I’m sure some would rather have a different supplement than creatine due to its suspected side effects.

I’ve used creatine for years, and I have no reason to believe their is any danger. I give myself a break from it every once in a while (maybe for a couple of weeks), but I think we’d be seeing a LOT of problems if it was somehow unsafe. It’s probably the most well-researched supplement out there.

  229. February 8th, 2009 | 1:58 am

    good post… thanks for sharing

  230. February 9th, 2009 | 5:16 pm

The only thing that makes me wonder has to do with my medical experience. I have never heard of anyone having side effects, but creatin in your blood is a result of the natural occurrence of muscle breakdown and rebuilding. When levels get too high, it is an indication that kidney function is not what it should be since it should be flushing creatin out at a steady rate that has a normal range. Something to think about- Nate

  231. February 10th, 2009 | 11:02 am

I never faced any problem with Creatine

  232. February 10th, 2009 | 3:49 pm

    Congratulation,
today you won a new reader :)

  233. February 12th, 2009 | 5:26 am

i don’t rely on these things…never used supplements

  234. February 12th, 2009 | 7:58 am

I would never use this crap! It ruins your body.

  235. February 12th, 2009 | 9:53 am

I can’t wait to start using creatine. I’ve heard it has great effects :)
The other day in the gym I heard a guy say “I’ve only been using it [creatine] for a week, and already I’m bulking up”, and he was huge already! :)

  236. February 16th, 2009 | 7:16 pm

I’ve used creatine in the past and noticed a slight improvement in performance with building muscle mass. However, I stopped using it because it felt better to my stomach to eat natural high protein foods than to rely on supplements.

    February 18th, 2009 | 3:38 am

In my opinion it effects some people and not others, i myself have never had any problems or side effects.

  238. February 18th, 2009 | 11:48 am

I have never had a problemw it creatine - it is naturally occuring so I don’t think it is a big deal. I mean if youtae pounds and pounds of chicken breast you can get a creatine boost, but who wants toeats pounds and pounds of anything LOL

  239. February 19th, 2009 | 2:38 am

I’m having a mixed feeling about Creatine. I think the jury is still out on this one though….

Creatine exists in meat and many other sources. I’ve taken it off and on for years. I need huge doses before it does anything, but then it makes a HUGE difference in my size.

  249. February 26th, 2009 | 8:12 pm

I’ve used creatine for a few months at a time. You get a great energy boost when you first start using it, but it tapers off after a about 3 weeks.

  250. March 1st, 2009 | 11:59 am

What do you think of creatine with nitric oxide ? Like N.O Xplode, a lot of new studies with beta alanine (nitric oxide precursor) are currently in progress, would you mind considering making an article about that ?

    Cheers

  251. March 1st, 2009 | 12:08 pm

Well creatine is safe if you don’t overuse it and if you have healthy kidneys.

  252. March 1st, 2009 | 12:12 pm

for instance, the n.o xplode product I was talking about: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/bsn/xplode.html

but what about CLA, conjugated linoleic acid ? I heard a rumor that there was discovered a new use for CLA togheter with Beta Alaline…just rumors thow

  253. March 2nd, 2009 | 12:05 pm

I’d say the same though. Creatine is simply a compound of such healthy amino acid profiles. So it’s basically safe.

  254. March 2nd, 2009 | 9:32 pm

I do not think that Caffeine is safe to drink, anything that you can get addicted to is not good. It then controls you and you can not function with out it - no I think it is a drug.

  255. March 3rd, 2009 | 2:42 pm

People, creatine is totally safe. Just because of one or two people dying from it because of their irresponsibility, doesn’t deem it a danger. Look at how many kids and toddlers die each year from cough medicine: about 400. Do you see it being banned anytime soon?

  256. March 4th, 2009 | 2:19 am

Creatine is a nitrogenous organic acid that occurs naturally in vertebrates and helps to supply energy to muscle and nerve cells.

  257. March 5th, 2009 | 11:15 am

Hmmm Creatine is safe to take 2 times a day in a smaller dose.

  258. March 5th, 2009 | 3:02 pm

I’ve never recommended nor used creatine. I had a client that was very thin and he easily bulked up by supplementing with stevia sweetened whey proein powder.

  259. March 6th, 2009 | 8:13 am

Personally, I don’t think I would ever want to take Creatine. The simple fact that there is a debate over whether it is safe or not makes me want to stay away from it.

  260. March 8th, 2009 | 11:13 am

I too used creatine for many years without any sideeffect. nice post!

  261. March 9th, 2009 | 12:00 pm

  264. March 16th, 2009 | 2:14 am

I use whey because it seems to be more natural. I wouldn’t want to use anything that would cause my body to be dependent on it.

  265. March 18th, 2009 | 5:04 am

I’m having a mixed feeling about Creatine. I think the jury is still out on this one though….

  266. March 18th, 2009 | 3:03 pm

I’m sure if there was anything significant to report about creatine, it would have been splashed all over the TV and newspapers by now.

  267. March 19th, 2009 | 6:55 am

he way i see creatine is a good way to stay cut, if you continue to use it there will be side affects its a good supplement to take every couple times for a few days or weeks dont extend it to months or years tahts when youll get into trouble.

  268. March 19th, 2009 | 2:03 pm

I have used it on and off in the past, I have never seen any problems arise. That’s not to say that the same story would be true for anyone though - each persons different. You must take your own view on the risks involved before embarking on a course of any type of enhancement supplement.

  269. March 20th, 2009 | 11:50 am

I took a nutrition class. I don’t believe Creatine causes any problems as long as you drink enough water.

  270. March 23rd, 2009 | 3:17 pm

As long as it is taken sensibly then you should be ok. Unfortunately people have a tendency to overdo things like this, and look at it as some kinda short cut to building muscles

  271. March 24th, 2009 | 5:04 am

Creatine exists in meat and many other sources. I’ve taken it off and on for years. I need huge doses before it does anything, but then it makes a huge difference in one’s size.

  273. March 25th, 2009 | 5:57 pm

I think creatine is fine if taken in moderation. Too much of one thing is never good.

  274. March 28th, 2009 | 1:41 pm

I too have a mixed feeling about Creatine

  275. March 28th, 2009 | 11:03 pm

I have heard from my gym instructor that Creatine is an excellent supplement for a pumped up look. Although I am not sure about its effects…

  276. March 30th, 2009 | 7:10 am

I’ve been using Creatine for 3 years already. Never had any problems with my health, and I visit my doctor every month.

  277. March 31st, 2009 | 4:41 pm

I agree that Creatine is very popular, but there is no evidence if it’s safe or not. I guess only time will tell. Besides everyone is different. I would wait until Creatine will be better researched.

  278. March 31st, 2009 | 11:06 pm

The opinions are always mixed, some love it, and highly recommend it - while others are indifferent to it’s affects. People note that creatine gives them a pump. It adds size, power, speed and recovery to what they already have, but when they get off it, they lose in all these areas.

  279. April 6th, 2009 | 12:42 am

I have never used it and never will.

  280. April 7th, 2009 | 4:21 am

  281. April 7th, 2009 | 7:21 am

No problems on creatine from me, although it can give me wind now and then! Other than that I would say it’s an essential supplement for body building.

  282. April 8th, 2009 | 12:42 am

I have takien creatine off and on for years. The best I have forund is CellTech I went from 180 to 190 in 2 weeks. I realize that it is a lot of water in the cels but my strength went through the roof. My only advice would be to drink lots of water when taking creatine, especially during the loading phase, as creatine tends to be a little hard on the kidneys. Lots of water!!!

Judging by the short term studies that have been performed, creatine appears to be safe when used by healthy individuals, that follow recommended dosage guidelines. However one should keep in mind the short term side effects such as, muscle cramps/pulls and dehydration.

  316. May 13th, 2009 | 4:30 am

I think creatine is not safe in the long run.Why don’t you post more stuff in this blog anymore ?By the way.

  317. May 14th, 2009 | 7:27 am

I was recently told that I shouldn’t use Creatine because it isn’t right for my body type. I am average height and slender, somewhat cut, but not a ‘big’ guy by any means. I doubt this kind of product would have a good effect on the results I want to achieve from my workouts.

  318. May 17th, 2009 | 8:36 pm

hmm..not sure if it is safe.. although I heard quite a few good reviews on them.

  319. May 18th, 2009 | 2:43 pm

I thought that long-term use of creatine was actually shown to be harmful on the kidneys? I could be mistaken but I thought I read that in several places.

  320. May 18th, 2009 | 9:45 pm

I think the general consensus regarding creatine is that its safe to use, providing one doesnt have a pre-existing condition - particularly Kidney and Liver.
As with any supplement though if you suffer from a pre-existing condition, its safe to have a doctor check you out before beginning the regime.

  321. May 19th, 2009 | 3:16 am

I’ve used creatine before, but it didn’t really do much for me. I gained some weight and could go a bit harder at MMA training but that had more to do with the fact that I was training more often too.

  323. May 20th, 2009 | 12:57 pm

I am really using creatine with a bit of an overdose. I have been doing this for a few years now and really no side effects..

  324. May 20th, 2009 | 2:30 pm

Only time will tell if creatine is safe or not. Just to stay on the safe side, I’d say that abusing or over consuming any substance can be harmful. Creatine helps to supply energy to muscle and that’s why many weight-lifters take creatine suplements. It is also used to treat some muscular and neurodegenarative diseases.

  325. May 21st, 2009 | 4:43 am

Any artificial thing is definitely going to have side effects sooner or later.

  326. May 21st, 2009 | 1:21 pm

I think anything that isn’t pure water can be hard on the kidneys over a long period of time of course.

Creatine dealers tend to support that creatine increases muscle mass, but it is more of an increase in mass of water carried by the muscle creatine molecules. Therefore, taking creatine causes a risk of dehydration

I am wondering that if people still have doubts about creatine. I have been using it since 5 years without any problems.

  344. June 6th, 2009 | 11:40 am

Creatine didn’t really do much for me. I’ve taken it on and off for months then it makes a huge difference in my size. I’ve read some information that creatine increases muscle mass of water carried by the muscle creatine molecules and taking this there is a possible risk of dehydration.

  345. June 6th, 2009 | 1:26 pm

Important information is already given by many commentors but my point of view is that why take such artificial stuffs. How can a stuff which dramatically increases your body volume can be safe.Who knows what ailment it can cause in your body.May be not now but may be after 5 years.

    Thanks

  349. June 11th, 2009 | 1:56 pm

    I’m guessing it’s pretty safe. ;-)

  350. June 14th, 2009 | 9:19 pm

I used to take Creatine, for five-six months, or so. i don’t remember well. but it was long time ago and it did not have side effects at all. pretty safe for me.

  351. June 16th, 2009 | 3:08 am

creatine is safe but up to a certain level

  352. June 16th, 2009 | 9:26 am

I think there is nothing wrong using that because I have been using it without any problem.

  353. June 16th, 2009 | 10:49 am

I am not a fan of anything unless it is 100% natural! So, I wouldn’t be able to put my 10 cents into this. But, many people seem to not have a problem with it, though I;m sure anything that is NOT natural to the body will have a long term effect.

  354. June 18th, 2009 | 9:23 am

Getting back into nutrition, and lifting again now, I fully intend to use Creatine. When I used it the last time, it helped me put on 48 pounds in 14 months, with no steroids or adrenaline. The intensity you feel when you are taking it can’t be compared to anything else that is considered natural. It increases your sex drive, testosterone, and mood. You should cycle it though, for the best effects.

  355. June 19th, 2009 | 11:25 am

  356. June 19th, 2009 | 2:54 pm

I love fitness activities and I know that sometimes fitness suplements are useful to help you gain muscle or resistance or lose weight so that your muscles seem more toned. As long as creatine is consumed under medical supervision, you should take it.

I have used it and it seems fine to me…
I guess it depends how you react to things.

    Cheers

  358. June 21st, 2009 | 9:38 am

I haven’t tried Creatine before. So far I hear it works for the people I know.

  359. June 22nd, 2009 | 12:40 pm

Creatine is found in our diets in beef. It is biochemically necessary for our bodies to function. Too much of anything has some problems however it should be safe.

  360. June 22nd, 2009 | 12:52 pm

Creatine in someway or another, is needed in our body. Again, it’s true that too much of creatine and other minerals in our body will give a negative result. so, everything should be balance.

  361. June 25th, 2009 | 5:50 am

I have tried creatine and I think it is ok as long as you do not take it too long without cleansing period.

  362. June 25th, 2009 | 12:40 pm

Honestly, I think it’s best as well as safest to stay away from products that aren’t natural and that even have the possibility of being questioned.

  363. June 26th, 2009 | 12:20 am

    I’ll follow u.

  364. June 27th, 2009 | 8:38 am

I used creatine for a while. Generally it is a good idea to rotate on and off of it. Also usually once you stop taking it you will loose some mass. My understanding of it is that it allows you to retain water in the cells to better aid in muscle formation.

  365. June 28th, 2009 | 3:33 am

I don’t have any problem after using this.

  366. June 28th, 2009 | 8:27 am

May be I’ll give a try and report this as soon as i can..

Creatine has time and time again been proven to be safe and effective - even over the long-term. I recommend it to anyone wishing to gain muscle mass — pretty much anyone besides long-distance runners!

  369. July 5th, 2009 | 12:31 am

i dont think is creatine is safe. it is always better to go on natural

I think Creatine is very safe, provided you cycle it properly and make sure you drink enough water.

  372. July 7th, 2009 | 2:21 pm

    Excellent Post. obrigado

  373. July 7th, 2009 | 11:31 pm

Creatine is produced by the body and it exists naturally in different foods. That should be a first indication of its safety.

  374. July 8th, 2009 | 11:56 pm

Thanks for making this post it’s real good one.

  375. July 9th, 2009 | 4:33 pm

As long as you don’t abuse, it can’t do you wrong. Just follow medical advice and pay attention to any sign of miscomfort.

  376. July 10th, 2009 | 11:13 am

It’s totally safe! Just don’t take too much of it!

  377. July 13th, 2009 | 11:14 am

I wouldnt say it is totally safe at all….
It needs to be taken in moderation and used sensibly, the rotation idea is best yes.

  378. July 14th, 2009 | 1:40 am

I was extremely skinny and took creatine. I believe I regret doing so, because before, although I was skinny, what little muscle i had you could see every piece of it, down to the granular level. I was so ripped. After taking creatine, I just got bloated. Yeah I am bigger, but at the cost of looking… puffy?

  380. July 17th, 2009 | 12:18 am

Using creatine or any other health supplements for that matter, needs to be talked with a medical professional first. A doctor or a dietitian can help you with your problems rather than using creatine without any medical supervision. Anything that concerns your health and body must be taken seriously.

The body uses CreatinePhosphate as a energy force to anaerobic re-synthesise ATP. The formula is:

CrP + ADP Cr + ATP

If the concentration of ATP in a muscle cell is falling due to contractions the process goes to the right and if the concentration of ATP in a cell is raising the process goes to the left.Thank you for the list of advices!

  383. July 21st, 2009 | 2:30 pm

Many things have been said, heard and written about creatine. It’s a substance found in your bodies so it’s not totally new for our system. As long as you consume it safely, everything should be all rigt.

  384. July 21st, 2009 | 6:53 pm

Creatine is one of the safest strength building supplements out on the market.

  385. July 21st, 2009 | 7:06 pm

    Like anything in life, it is probably a matter of moderation when taking creatine. Too much of anything is probably bad for you. Except chocolate (-;

  386. July 21st, 2009 | 11:53 pm

I definitely agree. I did not take supplements for longer period of time as well.

  387. July 22nd, 2009 | 6:28 am

I used to take creatine, but to be honest I never noticed any benefits. As far as being safe or not, my personal opinion is that it’s safe to take. The only supplement that I take now is whey protein. I also eat a healthy diet.

  388. July 22nd, 2009 | 6:37 am

My understanding of it is that it allows you to retain water in the cells to better aid in muscle formation.

  389. July 22nd, 2009 | 4:49 pm

I would think if you wanted to take creatine you’d check on safe dosages and how long you could take it for.

  390. July 24th, 2009 | 8:03 pm

I think this creatine already advice by government

  391. July 28th, 2009 | 12:55 pm

Creatine is part of our bodies. If you don’t abuse of it it can do you no harm.

  392. July 29th, 2009 | 4:04 am

Creatine is a strong no - no for me. I have had some side-effects to it. I won’t advice it to anyone. The positive reviews fail to convince me.

  393. July 30th, 2009 | 7:38 am

I prefer not to use supplements, and if its Creatine than just forget it. Natural options are much better.

  394. August 2nd, 2009 | 3:37 pm

I hear all kinds of things about Creatine. Personally, I wouldn’t even try it!

  395. August 6th, 2009 | 2:29 am

Thanks for the info- it turns out Microsoft’s bing really is making an impact, it seems to me your blog is getting a lot of search engine traffic from bing- have you found this to be the case?

  396. August 6th, 2009 | 11:01 am

I’ve never had a problem using creatine, although it is only a small part of my overall supplementation regime. Again, avoid abuse and there shouldn’t be a major problem…

  397. August 6th, 2009 | 2:02 pm

I think it works, it works really well in fact. If there is side effects from Creatine then its going to be thirty years before we here or see them.

  398. August 9th, 2009 | 12:03 am

  399. August 9th, 2009 | 12:03 am

  400. August 10th, 2009 | 3:08 am

I agree with ‘Sport Psychology Degree’ here. To date, there are no scientific studies showing creatine is bad for the body - After all, creatine is produced naturally in the body, and it is ingested through meat and fish consumption too. The only difference with creatine supplements is that you’re able to raise your creatine levels to a higher extent, so you can push yourself more when you train. That said, I’d still recommend caution and ‘cycle’ periods of creatine supplementation with periods OFF it as well. And stick with creatine monohydrate powder, as it’s the most tested form of creatine.

  401. August 11th, 2009 | 11:17 pm

When I’m still working with my previous job, I’ve read that Creatine has good effects too in our body. So I really agree.

I have used creatine, after used creatine I understand that, the long-term effects of taking creatine over a long period of time haven’t been established yet. Its side effects when used along with other medications or supplements also haven’t been determined yet.

I’m 19, 148lbs, and just began lifting regularly this month. I just bought Labrada’s lean body mass 60 protein powder. However it has some creatine in it. Normally I would take a protein shake 3 times a day, but would I need to take this one less because of the creatine? Its made for hardgainers, which I am, but is this product even safe?

A guy from my gym reckons creatine is what hospitalised him, he had kidney pains. Im not sure if that is true though. There appears to be no bad research on creatine to show its side effects otherwise I dont think it would be on the market especially here in Australia.
Muscle Mass had some of their creatine removed off their site I think because Supplements from the USA need to pass a Therapeutic Goods Act. Everything is back to normal now though.

creatine has only been recently introduced to the market it is hard to determine whether or not there will be long term health effects from it’s use. However it must be noted that to date there is not one, I repeat not one reputable study that shows creatine has any dangerous side-effects. 2 After eight years with no severe side effects I believe that one can begin to assume that creatine is relatively safe. I find it funny that most people I meet that are concerned about creatine’s safety are also people who like to go out and drink and smoke on weekends…try to find the irony in that.

Creatine is a substance present in our bodies. Before taking any creatine supplements we should first consult it with our doctor or a nutritionist.

  434. September 27th, 2009 | 12:21 am

small amounts of creatine are found in meat. Our muscles naturally use it. We were designed to consume it. It is safe.

Creatine is ok for you as long as you don’t drink alcohol while on it or OD on it. Small doses are actually healthy for you.

  439. October 5th, 2009 | 11:34 pm

The good thing is that as soon as they have any evidence that a supplement is not safe it is pulled from the market. Whey, creatine, glutamine, and some of the others have been around for a long time (relatively), so I don’t think you’ll have any problems there.

  440. October 6th, 2009 | 7:12 am

creatine is very important, we need to safe our creatine, my father experienced kidney failure and his creatine was going up, and must transplant

  441. October 7th, 2009 | 7:42 am

  446. October 10th, 2009 | 6:36 am

I too used creatine for many years without any sideeffect

  447. October 10th, 2009 | 2:33 pm

I noticed when I was in middle school it was a crze, and all the kids were taking it, so it couldn’t be that bad of a supplement.

  448. October 12th, 2009 | 5:32 pm

That’s a ton of comments… but creatine is perfectly safe. There is nothing that can harm you.

The only thing you may have to worry about is that it won’t react with you body the way it’s supposed to and then you just won’t get the benefits.

That’s the bottom line without going into all the science.

  449. October 13th, 2009 | 1:56 am

If there is any concern about a supplement, I’d prefer not to take it. There are other ways to get the vitamins, minerals, and essential oils/acids that we need.

  450. October 13th, 2009 | 11:10 am

I would want to know what it does to your body. @zayiflama: Are you sure there are no side effects?

  451. October 18th, 2009 | 2:55 am

    I don’t have any problem

  452. October 18th, 2009 | 9:53 pm

Creatine is a safe supplement to use. Just take the recommended dosage and see the benefits.

  453. October 19th, 2009 | 4:35 pm

So much I white, must probably be still further researched there. The global long-term Affekte of the creatine was indeed not yet sufficiently studied. I would remain first times with whey and multi-vitamin.

  454. October 20th, 2009 | 4:40 am

One of the body’s natural products is creatine. An average 200 lb man needs about 2.5 g of this substance for normal function. The body typically makes 1.5 g on its own, leaving the balance to be ingested via diet or additional supplement intake.

hic , it’s the 1st time i hear the word creatine. what does it mean?

  458. October 25th, 2009 | 12:01 am

I don’t know whether creatine is safe or not, but I would guess that the way it’s used by people who aren’t supervised by physicians is probably not a good thing.

As with anything, you can overdo it.

  459. October 26th, 2009 | 9:45 pm

This is quite informative because I have only made a research about this topic until this post. Based on what I read so far, it seems that it enhances strength and that it is safe to use. However, I might add, I have never tried it before.

  460. October 27th, 2009 | 8:08 am

Good Question. Well i found Creatine does work. you need to drink allot of water with it and work out allot to see results. The only thing thing is that it is very unhealthy for your heart in the long run.

  461. October 30th, 2009 | 2:18 pm

Of course it’s safe! Creatine is naturally in your body!

  462. November 1st, 2009 | 2:11 pm

I believe creatine is safe to use. In my past experiences with it, it didn’t turn out to be the “wonder” product I had thought it might be. However, I did notice quicker gains than I did when I didn’t use it.

I used it for a few years and so far I haven’t seen any adverse side affects.

I used creatine back when I was playing college baseball… I was on it for about 2 months and I tell you what I had some impressive results in the weightroom… All of my 1-3 rep maxs went through the roof. Whats funny is I actually had my worst season performance wise. I think that I lost sight of what I needed to accomplish on the field (baseball related movements) and focused more on looking good in the gym. Looking back I think creatine would have been much more beneficial if I would have stayed focused on how if could helped me from a baseball standpoint. I didn’t really have any problems or side effects at all, felt great!

I’ve taken creatine, and the only side effect I noticed was a little extra gassiness. Not pleasant, so I’ve stopped using it. Nice post though. Thanks for sharing.

  483. November 28th, 2009 | 9:34 pm

I’ve been using Creatine for a few years now and the results have been great. I find that my muscles repair a lot faster when I’m taking Creatine than when I’m not. I also noticed that if I take it before lunch and then workout at 5-6pm, I seem to have more energy and less muscle fatigue during sets. Which is odd, as that’s not what it’s intended to do. :)

  484. November 29th, 2009 | 6:14 am

i dont personally take it dont think i would unless it was necessary muscle building imo is a long term thing you just have to keep working out and in the end you will get there, thanks for posting an interesting debate going on here.

  485. November 30th, 2009 | 8:29 pm

It put water in my muscles made me feel really big, but when i stopped using it…i lost everything. But, hey maybe i was using the wrong kind.

  486. December 2nd, 2009 | 7:18 am

I have never taken creatine as I don’t want my body to become dependent on it.

  487. December 2nd, 2009 | 8:39 am

Nice post… its really very informative :)

  488. December 2nd, 2009 | 12:06 pm

there is so much of this stuff out there it can be hard for people to find a reliable supply, personally i dont use it but know of a few that do.

  489. December 2nd, 2009 | 7:32 pm

I love this debate. There is a lot of hype with supplements and many are gimmicks. Creatine works. Are there long term effects? That is a valid concern. Moderation is the key. Focus on eating right, use supplements in moderation. I will do on and off cycles of all supplements just to be safe.

  490. December 3rd, 2009 | 1:49 am

I agree, it must be taken in control and must be in doctor’s supervision. If you didn’t know what will you do ask the experts and listen to them. Just read much information as you do.

Good afternoon … my friends and I love this site, very good, congratulations, always visit.

  492. December 3rd, 2009 | 3:07 pm

In my opinion, creatine is a safe supplement as long as you’re using the pure creatine monohydrate. This is really the only creatine supplement that has been scientifically studied and shown to be safe in the short-term. Many of the other types of creatine may be more risky to take and have not really shown significantly more effectiveness when compared to pure creatine monohydrate.

  493. December 3rd, 2009 | 7:30 pm

Studies have showed that though we are eating right and have a regular exercise, we still need to take supplements because our needs are different. We must take a certain supplement to meet that need. I’ like to try that creatine. Thanks for the post.

    Hello,

Nice post I Like your site very well and continue to do so.

  497. December 7th, 2009 | 9:19 am

Most people say creatine is safe. I bodybuild and I draw the line at protein supplements. Everybody has to make his or her own educated choices.

  498. December 7th, 2009 | 2:42 pm

Creatine is found in all proteins. I dont see what the big deal is. Anything in moderation is fine.

  499. December 8th, 2009 | 3:18 am

Creantine is safe as long as it is not abuse by the user.

  502. December 9th, 2009 | 1:40 am

Thank you very much for your information. It was a great help.

  503. December 9th, 2009 | 3:48 am

I don’t rely on these things… I never used supplements..

  504. December 9th, 2009 | 7:36 pm

I would say… If you cycle off creatine appropriately, it won’t hurt you.

As long as you are not continuously taking it over months upon months without a cycling off, you should be fine.

  505. December 11th, 2009 | 4:32 am

  507. December 12th, 2009 | 12:45 am

I can’t say its good for you and I can’t say its bad. There are just to many articles that say its bad and at the same time there are many that say its good.

The way things are any more you can find articles that say everything is bad. it wasn’t that long ago that i heard milk was bad for you. If you listen to vegetarians they will say meat is bad for you.

It is hard to know what is bad and what is good any more.

  508. December 12th, 2009 | 4:41 am

I don’t think Creatine is good for everyone. It might be helpful for some peoples, We all are somehow different from each other. So if it is helpful to someone it doesn’t mean it will help others too.

    Hi there. =)

Fantastic Post regarding bodybuilding and fitness training. Enjoyed every minute of reading your post. Have already subscribed to your RSS feeds to stay tuned. =)

Btw, after following your post, i think you look like quite an experienced person in the health and wellness area, given some of your valuable advice in this important and practical area of our lives.

Thus, I hope that you could help me out with my health problem. Since young, i have suffered from excessively sweaty armpits and have been trying to find a cure to solve my sweaty armpit problem. Recently, i have been visiting this site sweatyarmpit.net and trying to find solutions to my underarm wetness issue.

Even though, after seeing your posts and content on this very blog, i feel that you are quite experienced in this area to help me out with my hyperhidrosis problem. I hope that you could give me some advice or ideas on how to go about curing my illness and find a permanent cure to stop my armpit sweating as soon as possible. Thank You.

I’m getting more and more leery of taking anything as a supplement. Try to find the natural source of what you want and then eat the natural foods. My parents are in their 80’s and are still really fit (Dad plays tennis every day, my Mom walks 3 times a day through the countryside). They’ve never taken a supplement in their life - but have eaten food from their garden and stuff prepared in their own kitchen for years.

  514. December 18th, 2009 | 6:07 am

I don’t think so that supplement use necessary for making your health good

  515. December 18th, 2009 | 10:42 am

We should keep our self feet, but this doesn’t mean that we should build our muscle. there are many athletes who doesn’t have good muscle but they all are feet enough.

  516. December 21st, 2009 | 3:18 am

if youtae pounds and pounds of chicken breast you can get a creatine boost, but who wants toeats pounds and pounds of anything LOL

  517. December 21st, 2009 | 12:48 pm

I love using creatine. I don’t feel like you should use it for extend periods of time nor is it a replacement for proper nutrition. I recommend going on and off any supplement. I will switch between creatine and NO. Not really sure about no but the caffine helps we work out harder for sure.

  518. December 22nd, 2009 | 8:24 am

I have heard about the water retention, that’s pretty minor but the idea that you lose the effects once you stop taking it…. that turns me off.

  519. December 23rd, 2009 | 8:24 pm

I Love creatine.I don’t think that it is harmful for our body. But you just have to drink LOT OF WATER daily.

    Thanks for the article ……..

I have not used creatine because I heard that it results in weight gain, because of more water in the muscles.

  524. December 28th, 2009 | 12:56 pm

I’ve done a bunch of research on Creatine and other recovery type products and haven’t come across any reports of serious side effects association with the supplement. The fact is that Creatine is produced by the body and it exists naturally in different foods. That should be a first indication of its safety. I have heard reports - mostly from friends - about an upset stomach after taking but that’s about it.

The only negative thing I’ve ever experienced with creatine was due to my own fault.

I felt renewed during workouts, but my muscle tissue hadn’t gotten the message and I tore a couple in the upper torso.

Other than that, creatine has been great.

I use it sparingly and only as a supplement when I do not have access to appropriate food intake.

  530. January 4th, 2010 | 1:28 am

I used creatine when I was at first time build my body. Then I was doubt, and I asked to myself, is it good for my long term health?
Since that, I decided to stop using creatine.

  531. January 4th, 2010 | 2:30 pm

Excellent article, My brother uses creatine and he swears by it, and has never had any problems.

  532. January 4th, 2010 | 9:16 pm

Creatine is safe if you take like is recommended.
You have to take about 3L of water for day to prevent kidney problems.

  537. January 8th, 2010 | 11:44 am

I’ve never had problems using Creatine. Maybe it depends on which brand you buy? Never buy the cheap stuff!

  538. January 13th, 2010 | 8:16 pm

I’m still a firm believer in natural nutrition and intense workouts. Increase weight for more muscle mass. Regardless if your after bulk or tone, nutrition plays a part.

  539. January 15th, 2010 | 11:05 pm

I use Creatine on my training days, but I do notice that sometimes I get cramped easier. I don’t know if that is related ot the creatine or not, but I’ve read somewhere that creatine can cause that.

  543. January 19th, 2010 | 11:40 am

I’ve been using creatine on a 6 months in, 1 out basis and have had no side effects so far. Now I’m gonna try one month in with really hard work, one out with hard work too, to see how it works, because as one commenter mentioned the initial effect is the powerful one, then benefits seem to decrease.

  545. January 22nd, 2010 | 2:22 am

  552. January 26th, 2010 | 12:49 pm

Creatine is a very good supplement if you want for that pumped up look. Although people claim about that water retention effects, I haven’t personally seen any of that.
My experience says, I have used it on and off in cycled of about one month, one month off for the best effect.

In general I believe creatine supplementation is safe, provided it is from a reputable manufacturer. The body naturally produces creatine in limited supply, so it’s not like taking a substance that is foreign to the body.

  561. January 30th, 2010 | 8:26 am

Does creating affect your libido? I mean will it work like butea superba as a natural herb male enhancer, or is it simply for muscle growth. I know the herbs work ok for me but I wonder if creatine is also useful in any way.

Better stop creatine now and all highly addictive drugs that I consider has brain crushers. It’s bad for you, bad for youth, bad for elderly. Care homes in our country have face nowadays higher increased of dependent people addictive to all sort of drugs. It’s bad! Our care homes must do very carefull and use all sort mechanisms to minimise mistakes related to drugs.

Creatine is a great product. There are so many different ones though and looking into each product and its reputation is a must, after all you are putting something into your body and it’s best you know its from a quality source. I took it when i began my air conditioning job as it was heave work and i did feel quite a bit stronger.

  570. February 8th, 2010 | 12:21 pm

I’ve been using creatine for quite a long time now, and all I can say is I have never felt any side effects. As with every supplement, the key is obvious: don’t go to the extremes. Just intake the right dose before and after a intense workout session and you’ll see results in a short time.

  571. February 8th, 2010 | 3:52 pm

Over at my blog (Gain Weight and Muscle) I talk about how creatine is one of my daily supplements.
I really think an excess of any of these supplements really can do harm to your body, but used in moderation it should be just fine, and I personally have seen nothing but great results building muscle with creatatine.

The greatest concern is that the body’s natural creatine production would shut down since its demand would not be needed after long periods of Creatine use, thanks for your post.

i too had many doubts on creatine, but the comments above have cleared my doubts.
