I think for many people, it's easy to get caught up in one muscle group. And if that person gets feedback from other people, they are likely to want to get even better/bigger biceps, pecs, etc... And yes, I agree.. it can look pretty funny if someone gets carried away! :)

Education Blogger,
Yeah, the peer influence can be a big factor here as well. You start to get attention for that one part and before you know it that's all you care about.

This is a good point and one of the problems I fell into with "traditional" exercises. Now I am exercising with the CrossFit program which works aggressively to provide a comprehensive workout of all muscle groups, daily.

I'm guilty. Hardly ever train abs, legs, or back. Just arms and chest. Now doctor is warning me of bad posture. Got strong chest muscles and weak back muscles. Great point for you to mention. Im trying to change...but its hard....lol...

Great stuff. I don't discriminate! I do my best to get an equal opportunity work out. Although I must say biceps and triceps are my favorite! :)

I never really fell into that trap. I like the feeling more than I like the looks.

It's so easy for us to look in the mirror and see parts of our body we are not happy with and then set out to "fix" them. While in all honesty I do want to look good at 47 I am much more interested in being able to do daily tasks faster and easier. I am also very interested, as I play sports of different kinds, in doing exercises which are more functional involving multi plane and multi joint activities. At our gym, Crossfit Bainbridge, I have found exactly this type of training and am very happy with it.
