Continue to Educate Yourself

I think that this tip goes along with everything in life.  You have to keep educating yourself.  If you ever get to the point where you think you know everything about something, you’re going to fall behind really really fast.  Especially in today’s world with information flying around the globe as quickly as it does.

So what are some good ways that you can keep up to date and keep learning the best ways to exercise and stay fit?  Well, let’s say for example that you’re a woman and looking to keep up on women’s arm exercises.  You could check out some blogs and subscribe to them, read books on the topic as they come out, or join a natural bodybuilding forum to learn the new tricks and techniques.  Another great medium that has come out with the advent of YouTube are exercise videos.

I guess my point here is not to give you an all inclusive list of places to go to find information, but make sure you’re doing your best to stay up on what’s going on in the fitness world.  But also make sure you have a grounded foundation in the basics.  Yes, new fan dangled contraptions and workouts come out all the time, but a lot of times they’re no better than the tried and true.  That’s another reason to stay educated: it keeps you from being duped!

There is a reason why I have subscribed to this blog. Pretty much because I am participating in sports on at my highschool. I need to stay informed to keep ahead of my friends. It would be nice to get some excersizes specific for spring sports. If not football, or wrestling. Thanks :)

I’ll agree that following latest news in any are is vital and so is learning from experience of others but I always thought it’s good to give something in return i.e. share your experience or your blogs and forums you use so everyone can benefit from it or maybe, if they disagree some can point you out in different direction.

  3. April 30th, 2008 | 8:13 am

I completely agree with you, the one who stops learning is the one who is left behind. As time moves along, new information is always discovered and it is best to stay on top of it, especially when the area of discussion is fitness.

  4. May 5th, 2008 | 9:35 pm

I completely agree. You must always learn new things.

  5. May 6th, 2008 | 6:48 am

I agree that you must keep on learning and educating yourself about health and fitness. The web does have lot’s of information about fitness and joining forums is a great way of sharing your information and reading and learning from others.

    Hey Dan,

Even better or equally as important to subscribing to blogs, is creating a blog. For example, creating a blog about your recorded fitness progress, regime/routine, practices and general health. As you learn from others you can record your own learning and real life experience.

    1) This will help reinforce what you have learnt.
    2) Give you an overal picture on your progress.
    3) Help others learn and see whats achievable.

    Thanks,

    Sarah.

Learning only ends as soon as living does.

Yewp. I find this blog has lots of info and this made me bookmark it =) But it’s true. Lots of people ask questions in the forums but all questions are just easily answered through google. Google is your best friend =D

Yeah stay educated is good. At least we wont be conned or even exploited like some misleading adverts do.. Thanks

Things are always changing that’s why it’s so important to KEEP UP WITH THE TIMES!

  11. July 2nd, 2008 | 1:29 pm

Good message here. You can always learn something! I never thought to try YouTube, though, but that’s a great idea.

  12. July 2nd, 2008 | 2:24 pm

I like that you mentioned to not look for a “perfect” list, because there is no such thing. What works for some won’t always work for others. I agree that the best thing you can do is check out multiple sources and always keep checking in on the latest things. There is always something you could learn or be reminded of.

  13. August 12th, 2008 | 6:58 am

    that’s a great idea thanks

I really like the exercise videos that you can access. Reading a description on how to the exercise can be difficult to follow. I always look for a video or a least some photographs to follow.

  15. October 15th, 2008 | 6:04 am

Always learn new technics. Yep, true.

  16. November 12th, 2008 | 4:21 pm

The same is true for golf fitness. Do research online and you will find many stretching exercises and core strengthening workouts that can help you to play golf better and most importantly, feel better.

The art of effective warming up is by incorporating the warm up routine into our exercising routine. Warming up doesn’t have to eat up the time you allotted for exercise into our day.

  22. December 7th, 2008 | 11:49 am

    I agree completely!

We should always learn new things and everything to keep our body healthy.

Exercises, natural medicines, techniques to nourish and help our body fight from diseases we have today in the environment.

Your words were really inspiring. How many people, in all areas, tend to obsolete themselves due to the lack of learning will?

I particularly believe and admire Socrates words: “All I know is that I know nothing”.

It’s the secret to a life full of joy and the way to plenitude: learn every day something new: a new recipe, a new music, a fact, some information, a new friend. It’s the real richness

It is really astonishing how much information you can find about health issues. Forums are a really good place to share information about health issues. I use them quite regularly when ever I have a health issue.

It is completely not worth it to get into 99% of the new, supposedly revolutionary, workout and bodybuilding machines that are released all the time. Humans have been building muscle with the same old methods for thousands of years and quite often these new ‘miracle machines’ are simply gimmicks in disguise.

It’s a very good point - constantly learning something new. Same goes to exercise routine and same goes to healthy diet and weight loss. Know what you do and why and not just follow at times controversial advices.

Great info and suggestions! I never thought to look on the web to actually get some very specific techniques. Everyone benefits from different points of view on a subject….and with diet and exercise, this is no exception! I don’t do the exact same thing everyday, so it is hard for me to have the same fitness and eating routine every day. Being knowledgeable about the choices helps me to be flexible.

It is critical to continue to educate yourself on every aspect of nutrition and exercise. In a world of constant change and information overload you have to take it a step at a time. I love to turn my car into a university on wheels, learning on my way to and from the office.

I’m a member of quite a few bodybuilding/fitness forums and every week I learn something new. Talking to a community of like-minded athletes can be rewarding and motivating. Everyone should take advantage of the opportunities to learn new things and help others whenever they get the chance.

I agree, you must be humble in every step of your way. In life we must always do good things to people not bad. As you go through life there is a time that you cannot figure out what is wrong and what is right. So we must be on the track every step of the way. Its not like I’m not answering this comment to the article but relating this also to our daily life.

Every day is a learning process. From talking to someone, from reading newspaper or something, from making decision everyday, from that we can learn.

  57. December 18th, 2009 | 11:29 am

Yes. Information is power. Stay updated, and constantly educate yourself. There’s always something you can learn from someone else.

So, dig in and read often, ask questions, stay updated.

  58. December 19th, 2009 | 2:43 pm

I completely agree - always have to learn new technics and it is never too late to educate yourself.

  59. December 25th, 2009 | 4:16 am

One of the things that is a bit discouraging to Marie and me are the mixed opinions of the experts relative to fitness.

When speaking of developing the body, for example, there are at least 100 different programs for developing the abdominal muscles alone, some of them spectacularly contradictory, and all claiming to be the newest and the best.

In your opinion, without being experts ourselves, how does one choose a master to follow?

  60. December 27th, 2009 | 7:13 am
