Behavior Change = Weight Loss
This will come as no surprise to most of us, but a study was done that concluded that one in four obese men can lose more than 100 lbs if they engage in a 12 week intensive weight loss program. You mean to say that by actually sticking to a weight loss program for 12 weeks you can actually see some difference in your weight?
Ok, so I’m being a little sarcastic here. It’s good to see that they have scientific evidence to back it up, but unless you have the emotional motivation it doesn’t matter how many studies you read. Eventually you have to get up and do something.
If you have a hard time sticking to a 12 week program, try doing a 4 week program. Or, even a 2 week! Do whatever time frame works for you. But the important thing is that if you want to change your weight you have to change your behavior.

Setting Yourself Up to Win

everyone can lose 100 lbs in a few days. you need to be a bit bulimic and a diarrhea and your all set for wight lost. losing 4 lbs a month it is much healthier, and don’t take too much effort out of you. and in the long run it doesn’t comeback. unlike losing 200lbs in 3 weeks that you drink it all up.
First time in your site.
Very interesting.
I will subscribe the feed and definetively come back.

doesn’t sound very healthy at all.. when you have a need to lose weight, you first have to tell the rabbits in your head that you wanna get thinner and then you should start doing some basic sports preparing your body step by step and while doing that you should change your behaviour eating food: fruits, vegetables, less meat… just healthy stuff
everything else is not very recommended!
I totally agree. I think too many times people are looking for a magic diet or quick fix to weight loss. But to me, if you really want to lose weight and keep it off, you have to change your behavior and lifestyle.
Ferienwohnung,
The cheat meal is just an excuse to not completely change old habits. I like your analogy of the rabbits in the head!
I always tell my patients that small success leads to big success. If you can achieve small goals then you can Make some headway. The problem with weight loss is that it takes time and my patients loose steam when they don’t see results right away. Get a buddy and do it together!
Behavior is the key. There is no question that burned fuel means burned weight. As a wrestler I would lose 20 pounds a season, and I was already at 11 percent body fat to start. I know will power equals success.
This is a good article; you are right…if people can stick to their weight loss program, they can lose weight. I like how you have given people other “time options” to begin with if they can’t stick to 12 weeks. Nice job!

I think this kind of weigthloss is a bit extreem. 1 kilo (2 lbs) contains 7000cal. This means you will have to lose (50/12= 4) * 7000 = 28000cal PER WEEK! 2 lbs per week is much better.
The weigthloss is always big stress, it must be done very carefully.
A first step in losing weight is to change your thinking. Don’t buy into these various diet programs but, learn something about energy/calories and alter your habits.
You’re right, although the results of this are fantastic, it’s very common sense that sticking to a weight loss plan will help you to lose weight.
Did you know it takes 21 days to form a new habit? So it takes 3 weeks for a new activity to feel like it’s second nature. I wonder how many people give up on their weight loss plans before that?
Another interesting fact supported by research is that people tend to walk more when they wear a pedometer. Since walking helped the men in this study lose weight, it can definitely be a great weight loss tool. Research has shown that wearing a pedometer increases daily steps by 2000 (an entire mile)! It’s the fact that you can actually see your progress that is so effective.
Ahh, so true. Without a mental shift no one will even have the drive and motivation to go through with a weight loss program.
I think your point about chunking it down to maybe just a week or two is a very good idea. You got to crawl before you walk!
There is no magic answer!! So many people here have written what actually works - healthy eating and plenty of exercise!! I agree that you need to pick a plan that suits you, otherwise you will have no chance of sticking to it.
I find losing weight slowly but eventually like 4 pounds a month much better because you don’t have to change your habits so much. So it is much easier to do and you will get use to your new good habits so you will keep it off. Unlike losing 50+ pounds a week but the next week you gain it all back because it was so hard and strenuous. Hope everyone will stick to what they can do and it works for them!

I am not sure that if you lose this much weight at a stretch that it is good for your health.
I think that it can cause cardiac problems. And you were right there should be emotional motivation to do something like that. Or else its a waste of money.
I am pretty sure that is not piece of cake like you said. A weight loss regime is not child’s play as it involves mental focus as well.
I think that a person has to first start only if he is confident enough that he can complete it and he should also be ready to accept the change of appearance that will follow the program.
Behavior is so closely related to weight loss as hig weight is so perfectly indicitave of a behaviour problem in most cases.
My husband is overweight. He complains of feeling tired and has a permanent back ache. I’ve suggested to him losing some weight would probably help, but he just won’t listen. I’m in danger of becoming a nagging wife, but I’m actually very worried about him. He needs to do something soon. Thanks for this article, I’ll try to get him to read it and act on it, but don’t hold your breath.
Yes this does tend to happen and this is why many people tell that weight loss is something that should be done with immediate results in mind. It should always be a long term option.
I think it is something that can happen to anyone and there are no two ways about it, you need to make sure that you have proper guidance when you venture out into it, and that is the best option.
If you can achieve small goals then you can Make some headway. The problem with weight loss is that it takes time and my patients loose steam when they don’t see results right away. Get a buddy and do it together!
