Stay Healthy Through the Holidays!

Hey Everyone,

Here’s just a little note to hopefully give you a little motivation to stick with your program through the Holidays. Ironically enough, this major Holiday Season is timed right before we all start making our New Year’s Resolutions. And also ironically enough, it seems that its during the Holidays that most people put on extra weight that they wouldn’t have put on any other time of the year. So as a rebound, their New Year’s Resolution is something like “Get back on track with my fitness goals” along with resetting goals entirely. So while it may be hard, why not just stick with your plan as much as possible even through the Holidays? Yes, you may get some funny looks and some funny comments from your friends, but at least when New Years rolls in you’ll feel confident that you finished the year out strong instead of giving up at the very end. Perseverance is the key!

Good luck, and be strong through the Holidays!

Induction Destruction: The Perils Of Diving Into Strict Diets Head First - Tom Venuto
One thing that almost all mainstream popular diets have in common is an “induction phase.” This is often done for the scientific-sounding reason of “making the metabolic switch” from “carb burner” to “fat burner.” However, “induction” is simply a politically correct way to say you have to crash diet and starve yourself in the beginning… which is a one way ticket to eventual weight regain and metabolic destruction!

Easily Substitute Fats In Your Everyday Diet - Gary Matthews
Lets face it there are a lot of non-fat and low fat food substitutions on the market today, and also lots of substitutions that are not hard to figure out such as the cheeses, low fat cottage cheese compared to full cream cheese and tuna packed in brine instead of oil.

Story — A Tale of 110lbs … and kept it off.

Here is a great blog entry that we came across about a guy that decided to make a change, but in order to do so he had to make a lifestyle change. This just goes to show that if you want to make a change it isn’t about just going on a diet, or many of the other small changes that people will make when they want to try and lose weight. You have to really change the way you live, or else you can’t expect to see the results you really want. Check it out!

How Many Calories To Eat A Day - Joseph Tierney
One of the main reasons why so many people have become overweight in the West is due to their eating too many calories. The consumption of more calories than are burned each day means that the body stores the extra calories as fat. The modern diet certainly allows a person to eat well beyond the calories they need to maintain their weight

Are You Just Lifting Weights or Actually Training?

Dumbbell RackWe all need to be able to make the distinction between just going to the gym to lift weights, or actually weight training or resistance training. While the wording sounds the same, they are two completely different approaches to your workouts in the gym. One of the most important questions you need to is this - why are you lifting weights? Are you trying to gain more power and strength, or are you trying to actually build a better body? The reason this question is so important to answer is because you have to approach your workout differently depending on what your goals are.

What Is the Goal?

Setting your goals or sights one what you’re really trying to accomplish is the first step in deciding if you are just lifting weights, training for strength and power, or training like a bodybuilder. Maybe you’re just going to the gym to try a burn a few calories and get a good feeling because you’re actually exercising. If that’s the case, then you are just going to the gym to lift weights. There is nothing wrong with this, at least you’re doing something! But, without considering yourself to actually be in ‘training’ and working out that way, you probably won’t hit the goals that you may have set. On the other hand, if you have set a goal that you want to hit a certain strength level, then you need to train for that. Same with training for more of a bodybuilding type goal (gain more muscle, get ripped, or whatever your goal is).

We’ll go into more details about this in the next week or so, but the first step is to decide what you really want to accomplish. Once you know that, then its time to really start to visualize yourself attaining your goal and working hard to accomplish it. If you really want results, don’t just go to the gym to lift some weights - put yourself in training mode and get some results!
